You dog! We have a lot in common. I’m a husband, a dad, and a grandpa (I’m 54). I’m a lover of the arts - I started adult life as a professional musician. I’m a wannabe bicyclist (all my life - still ride my 1975 Follis). Love Garrison Keillor and Don Miller (have you read Ann Lamott’s Traveling Mercies?) and Brian McLaren. I love being a pastor, though I didn’t always (I’ve served one church for twenty years), and I especially love connecting with people who don’t fit the church mold. And I am certain I don’t know what’s next, and that figuring it out is part of why I’m here. Thanks for showing up over at Alien Drums and commenting. I’m looking forward to learning from you.

    Monte-

Here are some more commonalities. I have read Traveling Mercies (and liked it.) “The Mole” at Alien Drums is a good on-line friend. I love his writing. You live in state between the one I’m from (MO) and the one where we currently live (IL.) I have a beard and it is white. :)

We crossed paths once before, when I hijacked your post about Anna Nicole Smith. It was very moving and a good reminder.

Have you ever been at a live performance of, “A Prairie Home Companion?” Our daughter and family live in the Twin Cities. So, I surprised my wife for her birthday a couple of years ago and got tickets. It was a hoot!

  3. Monte Says:

Wow. My dad was born in MO; my wife, in IL. Thanks for your kind words about the ANS piece.
Nope, never have been to PHC, but have vacationed in Lake Wobegone for much of my life. I’m thinking one of the current great public radio shows comes from Madison - surely not too far for you - and possibly another from Chicago. Let’s see, one is “Whad’dya know?” and the other is, hmm, maybe “Sez who?”

I live in SE Iowa - you’re welcome to stop for coffee if you travel to MO thru Iowa. I’ll buy!

Monte- There really is a Lake Wobegone? I have listened to those shows. We travel I-80 and I- 35 a lot between Chicago and St. Joseph, MO. Thanks for the hospitality offer!

  5. Monte Says:

Meet you in Iowa City anytime. I live in Washington, next county seat south.
Naw, there is no official Lake Wobegone, but I’ve been to many of its mothers.

  6. Glenn Says:

Iowa City is our half way point in the trip. If we are able to get back this summer, I’ll contact you.

  7. Roland Says:

Your blog is a real find - again, someone similar in age and interests.

  8. Glenn Says:

Hi Roland. Welcome to the conversation. I hope that we have the opportunity to interact further.

  9. Rachel Says:

    Hi Glenn.
Stumbled across your site through my friend Heather. Will be checking in regularly! I am a wife, mother, pastor, artist here in Melbourne Australia, and am liking what you have to say.
    Keep it up, it’s great!
    Rachel.
p.s. I LOVE U2 like you would not believe, so I figure you must be cool!

  10. Glenn Says:

    Rachel…

    Welcome!

    You are very kind.

I look forward to hearing more from you.

    -Glenn (fellow U2 freak)

There are very few ENTJs out there. Nice to find another one.

    Nate ~ I guess we’re just special!
